A musical set in the 1930's. Telling the story of a struggling Broadway musical 'Dames at Sea'.
The show is due to open with a has been star, Mona Kent, in the lead part.
A would be star Ruby arrives in town eager to sing and dance her way to stardom. The shows director, Hennesey, gives her a part in the chorus line on the advice of his leading chorus girl, Joan.
At this moment two sailors, Dick & Lucky, arrive in town and bump into their old girlfriends – who would you believe, are Ruby & Joan! To complicate matters further Dick is a songwriter and upon hearing his songs, Mona demands they are incorporated in the show. However, she is not only impressed by his songs and aims to woo him into her affections.
By now the theatre where Dames at Sea is due to open is going to be closed, leaving Dames with no theatre to play at. Dick & Lucky come to the rescue by volunteering their ship for the performances. The Captain of the ship turns out to be none other than an old flame of Mona Kents! As Mona continues to make advances towards Dick, Joan and Lucky aim to ruin her performance by making her feel seasick. The plan works and Ruby has to step into the leading role. The whole tongue-in-cheek plot comes to a crescendo as we wonder, can Ruby save the show? Well, what do you think?
