Ivor Novello was one of the UKʼs greatest and most prolific songwriters creating such
enduring and beautiful classics as 'I Can Give You the Starlight', 'Rose of England', 'Weʼll Gather Lilacs' and 'Keep the Home Fires Burning'.
A sumptuous gala evening with 12 stellar vocalists and an instrumental ensemble
performing semi-staged numbers, specially arranged for the occasion, from Novello's
inspired works, all in the beautiful setting of the National Musiciansʼ Church, right in the heart of the City of London. Beautiful faces, beautiful voices and beautiful costume: an unforgettable evening of nostalgia, pathos and bitter-sweet indulgences.
Novello died sixty years ago in 1951 and this anniversary has sparked a recent revival of interest in his life, music and other works (including films and plays). His work has long been neglected and over-looked and we are proud and privileged to be taking a leading role in the resurgence of this true British master!

Oxbridge Opera Company (www.oxbridgeopera.com) was formed in 2010 by a group of musicians, singers and actors based in and around, or with past association with the
ancient cities of Oxford and Cambridge.
Those who have taken part in earlier ventures include serious academics, professional
singers and talented amateurs from the UK and internationally. Our 12 singers for the
Novello Gala are drawn from some of the UKʼs leading musical conservatoires and
universities and have a wealth of experience ranging from Bach to Britten, Sullivan to
Sondheim and national and international tours with prominent choirs and opera companies.
We aim to produce vibrant, dynamic and innovative operatic productions that bring the
traditional repertory to a modern audience using the best new talent available.
