Musical Theatre Workshops

This May Phoenix is running three exciting new workshops! It’s a chance for everyone to keep their bodies moving, their skills sharp and their friendships blossoming between shows.

As always, new and old members are welcome. All abilities are welcome.

To ensure we can cover the cost of venue and workshop leads, you will need to buy a ticket in advance to attend. It’s pay-per-workshop, so you can pick and choose which ones to pop along to. Why not invite a friend or partner to enjoy some of the Phoenix magic themselves?

All workshops are in Emmanuel Church Hall from 7.30-9.30pm. They are not connected to a specific show - more information on the autumn show will be released shortly.

Here’s what to expect…

THURSDAY 9 MAY - SINGING WORKSHOP: AUDITION LIKE A PRO
with Isaac Bartels

This fun and friendly session will give new singers and old hands alike a singing confidence boost they can take into future auditions.

A combination of group singing and solo advice will get you in tip top shape - delivered by expert musical director, Isaac Bartels. (You may well recognise him from MDing fellow am dram groups like SEDOS and Quay - and, of course, Overtures.)

Isaac is also the MD for our Spring Sing, so this is the perfect place to garner some insight and top singing tips ahead of the big night at the end of May.

MONDAY 13 MAY - ACTING WORKSHOP: THE ART OF PLAYING
with Sophie Stockwell

Fresh from directing Alice in Wonderland, Sophie will join Phoenix once again to help us unpick the secrets of how to approach dramatic text through play.

The workshop will include:

  • An introduction to text work - learn how to mine text to make playful choices

  • An introduction to voice - unlocking the fun of your own voice

  • Movement and play - working those learnings through your whole body

It is designed to make your next audition and next (or current) role more artistically creative, fun and rewarding - so don’t miss out, come and play with us!

MONDAY 20 MAY - DANCING WORKSHOP: CHOREO CAMP
with Debbie Williams and friends

We all love a boogie, and this workshop will certainly get you on your feet and moving! Come along and learn a new dance hosted by some of Phoenix’s gang of top choreographers.

But that’s not all, as this isn’t your ordinary dance workshop - it’s also a chance to try out doing a bit of choreo yourself. In this low pressure and creative environment, let our team guide you through the artistic process. It’s a great opportunity to try something new or push your skills - maybe we’ll discover Phoenix’s next great show choreo together!

These workshops will be followed by our FRIDAY 31 MAY - SPRING SING - check out our other page for more info on that one.
