We have now closed our call for scripts for 2025, and are considering the wonderful submissions! Below is provisional information for the call for 2026. This information may change - this section will be removed when it is confirmed.
Could you write a Phoenix show?
We are on the hunt for brilliant scripts written by our community for our group to perform in early 2026.
We want scripts with lots of great roles for a large cast and ambitious chorus, well-loved music numbers that will get an audience’s toes tapping, and laughs for all the family! Historically these have often been pantomimes, but we welcome less traditional suggestions too. For more info on what makes a good Phoenix show, check out our Run a show FAQs.
If you have a script we should know about, please share it with us at committee@phoenixplayers.org.uk by 31 August 2025.
You do not need to submit a full script if you’ve not completed it yet - by the end of August we expect to see a first draft of Act 1 and show outline for Act 2. Your final draft would be due by the end of November.
What happens after you submit?
In September, we’ll share submissions with potential directors to help them work up a pitch for Phoenix’s Spring family show. If you’re keen to direct your own written work, please let us know when you submit.
While we welcome writers to apply to direct or be in a production role, if you prefer to focus on writing, there is no obligation for you to be involved in the production in any way after you have submitted your script.
We encourage you to be clear in your script if there are scenes/songs/jokes you are happy for the director to modify (or really cannot lose!) and will have a conversation with you and the director about how to approach creative decisions.
The final show choice and director will be confirmed in October, with auditions likely beginning in January.
We cannot pay you for scripts (beyond a very small token amount as a thank you) - the family show is a fundraiser and we are usually fortunate enough to have shows donated by passionate members of our extended community. When it comes to performances, songs will be limited to those we can licence (this usually means no ABBA and no Disney).
