Phoenix Players - Code of Conduct

The Phoenix Players (“Phoenix”) have been performing musical theatre in South London for over 40 years. We’re a very friendly amdram society and we welcome people of all ages and abilities. We embrace people from all walks of life into our community.

To ensure everyone feels safe and welcomed, the Phoenix Committee has developed this Code of Conduct to set standards of behaviour for everyone in Phoenix.

Expectations

Above all, we expect everyone in our community to be kind, inclusive, and respectful. Phoenix will not tolerate discrimination, bullying, verbal or physical abuse, or sexual harassment against anyone in our community.

Everyone who is involved with Phoenix’s events or activities, including cast, crew, and audience, is expected to:

  • Treat everyone with respect and kindness

  • Be polite and courteous in their interactions with others

  • Refrain from shouting at or abusing others

  • Refrain from any violent or abusive behaviour

  • Refrain from bullying, intimidating, or discriminating against others

  • Refrain from sexually harassing others

  • Ask consent before touching others

  • Respect others' pronouns and forms of address

  • Listen to everyone’s point of view

Enforcement

If anything at a Phoenix rehearsal or event makes someone feel uncomfortable, or if someone witnesses or is made aware of anything which goes against this Code of Conduct, we ask that they raise it with the wellbeing reps and/or the Phoenix Committee.

Everyone who reports a problem to us will have their complaint taken seriously and investigated properly. Where allegations of misconduct are made, a member of the Phoenix Committee will investigate as soon as possible, including speaking to all parties involved. The Phoenix Committee will then determine a course of action. The privacy of those involved in a complaint will be respected throughout.

Where possible, safe, and appropriate, we welcome efforts by individuals to resolve problems informally. We know that sometimes mistakes and miscommunications can happen, and that people may not have realised that they have caused a problem. However, we recognise that this may not always be possible.

Where misconduct is alleged, the Phoenix Committee reserves the right to suspend individuals for a period of time and prohibit them from attending Phoenix rehearsals or events. Where allegations are upheld, Phoenix may expel individuals permanently and prohibit them from attending Phoenix rehearsals or events. Any such suspension or expulsion may be immediate, or may be preceded by a formal warning, at the discretion of the Phoenix Committee. The Phoenix Committee reserves the right to take further action, such as reporting instances of criminal misconduct to the police, should this be necessary.

Where the complaint involves a third party (e.g. a venue or a supplier), the Phoenix Committee may report it to the relevant organisation. The Phoenix Committee reserves the right to take further action, such as discontinuing our relationship with the third party, should this be necessary.
